William Tong is a junior at Northwestern University studying journalism, computer science and legal studies. This past summer, he reported on local news, politics and the legal system for The News & Observer in North Carolina. He's also written and edited for The Daily Northwestern and his high school's student paper, the Central Times. Specifically, William's interests include legal, data and investigative reporting especially through a local lens.
William is also an advocate for press freedom, especially for student journalists. He worked with the Student Press Law Center as a Student Press Freedom Day Co-chair in 2022 and 2023, and spent a summer researching federal Freedom of Information Act efficacy.
